The meteorite, whose fall was observed on June 27, 1931, exploded and broke into many pieces that landed near the town. In 2000, it was identified as a diogenite from the asteroid Vesta. The town of Tatahouine inspired the creators of Star Wars to create Luke Skywalker's planet - Tatooine
